Stretched along the scenic Brewster River, our
campground offers a delightful place to relax and reconnect with nature. Enjoy
the sight and sound of the river with its 20' waterfall. Experience a truly dark
night that will amaze you with the number of stars visible when there is no
pollution from city lights. Evenings in mid-summer, the fireflies fill the
meadow with twinkling lights. Many campers report the best night's sleep in
years while staying here.
Opportunities also abound in the area for active outdoor pursuits. The Long
Trail can be accessed at several places close to the campground, including hikes
to the top of nearby Mt. Mansfield, the highest point in Vermont. Horseback
riding, fishing, bicycling, and canoe/kayak outings on the Lamoille River are
all available locally.
(Note: most cell
phones will not operate right in the campground, but coverage is usually
available at the higher elevation of the highway. Free internet connection is
available at the Sunrise Cafe two miles away.)
Accommodations:
We provide
twenty tent sites, five of which are considered primitive because of the
distance to the bath house and water supply.
A large
central field with a 20'x32' timber-frame pavilion is ideal for group camping.
Three sites
for small trailers/RVs have water and electric hook-ups (no vehicle sewer
connections or dump station at the campground). These wooded sites are 50' back
from the river and near the bath house.
Special
riverside accommodations for rent include a lean-to, a cabin, and
a tipi.
A one-bedroom
apartment is available on the second floor of the bath house.
Each campsite
is about 2,500 sq. feet in size. The site includes a non-tipping picnic table, a
metal fire ring or stone fireplace, and parking for one vehicle.
Common facilities:
Our clean,
modern bath house provides two lavatories, two flush toilets (in roomy stalls)
and two free showers in both the men's and the ladies' rooms. The handicapable
rest room has a raised toilet and an accessible lavatory.
An outside
dishwashing sink with hot and cold water is available by the office. Another
sink with cold water can be used for cleaning boots, clothes, etc. PLEASE DO NOT
WASH dishes or other materials in the rest room lavatories.
The pavilion
and field with picnic tables may be used by campers unless reserved by a group
and posted with signs to that effect. The central fireplace on the field may be
enjoyed responsibly, but fires must be attended by an adult and extinguished
fully when done.
Regulations:
Please observe the
common-sense regulations posted at the office.
Help reduce
the impact on the environment by minimizing trash, utilizing recycling and
compost bins, and returning containers with deposits to the store (we do NOT
want the refundable bottles and cans).
Respect the
quiet hours and use earphones if you want to listen to music or the radio.
Be careful
with fires- do not leave them unattended- and do not throw non-combustible items
in the fireplaces.
DO NOT bring
firewood from out of the area (50 mile radius) to avoid the spread of insect
infestations. (See "Read This")
No firearms,
fireworks, or illegal substances. Alcohol is permitted if used responsibly by
adults.
Safety:
Enjoy the
river carefully and supervise all children in or around the water. There are
some deep holes, slippery rocks, and swift currents, particularly after heavy
rains. DO NOT JUMP OR DIVE from the rocks. No glass bottles in river.
Place all
food in containers at night, preferably stored in your vehicle. We have had the
occasional black bear visit the campground and raccoons may also raid your food
if it is left exposed.
Do not harm
or handle the wildlife. Chipmunks will forage for your scraps, but are not pets.
Raccoons and skunks are the most common carriers of rabies. Foxes and bats
should also be avoided. Report to the office any animals noticed if they are
dead or acting strangely.
Activities:
Check the "Activities"
page for events held here at the campground.

the area.
We will be
happy to help you make arrangements with local outfitters for fishing,
canoe/kayak outings, horseback rides, etc.
